Celebrating nearly 70 years in business, the owners of Hall Piano Company and Steinway Piano Gallery of New Orleans have been part of the music industry as a family-owned and locally-operated business for three generations. In 1957, Dan Hall and John Wright, Sr. arrived in New Orleans to lay the foundation for what would become Hall Piano Company in 1958. Both seasoned piano technicians and rebuilders, their desire to serve the New Orleans music community grew into a thriving retail and service company. In 1966, they made the decision to relocate to the rapidly growing Metairie area to better serve the needs of their expanding clientele. Their first Metairie home was at 709 David Dr.

In 1988, Hall Piano expanded into an adjacent strip center located at 901 David Dr., which provided additional space to grow both their restoration center and retail operations. John Wright’s son, John Jr., began working in the family business as a young man, gaining experience in various aspects of piano rebuilding and general operations. In 1990, Steven Kinchen joined the company as a shop helper with the intention of learning the piano trade. Steven quickly fell in love with the sales and marketing aspects of the business and, by 1992, decided to follow that path within the company. In 2002, John Jr. and Steven completed the purchase of the company from Dan Hall and John Wright, Sr.

A new home for Hall Piano Company was established in 2003, directly adjacent to the original 901 David Dr. location, creating a state-of-the-art retail and restoration facility for the New Orleans market, unlike any other. In 2004, Steven and John received the honor of being selected as the official Steinway Piano Dealer for the Greater New Orleans market. Recognized as Steinway’s “Partners In Performance” in 2007, Hall Piano Company became synonymous with the name “Steinway” in the community. Since 1958, we have become a trusted partner to musicians and music lovers alike, providing services including piano sales, rentals, restorations, and moving. Our dedication to exceptional service, both before and after the sale, has earned us the loyalty of professional musicians and hobbyists who know they can count on us for all their piano needs.

In 2024, we embraced a new chapter by rebranding as Steinway Piano Gallery of New Orleans, while continuing our tradition of excellence.
